Key strengths of NLP
The Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) model teaches the skills required to achieve unparalleled success in most human interactions. NLP is essentially the study of the structure of “excellence” i.e. how people become successful at things. This success encompasses the setting and the achievement of goals.
NLP emerged in the early 1970’s as a powerful and effective tool with applications to counseling, education, sports and business communication. Drs Richard Bandler and John Grinder formulated the NLP model after many years of observing and listening to people who seemed to have a natural talent for effective communication. They concluded that these peoples’ strengths lay not in what they said (content) but how they said it (process). Layla studied with McClendon who was trained in NLP by Drs Bandler and Grinder.
The foundations of NLP assume that excellence in performance can be modeled and transferred from one person to another. The elements of an excellent performance can be broken down into its constituent parts, for example, excellent communication is a function of what is said (the words), how it is said (the tone, tempo, volume) and well as body language.
The NLP model functions at the level of what is happening with an individual’s perception of the world i.e. how an individual experiences an interaction and makes sense of that interaction. Because NLP examines the process of experience rather than the content, it is referred to as the “Study of Subjective Experience.

Generative Counseling Techniques
This is developing the ability to use NLP Practitioner techniques singularly and in combination. Additionally, training in generative counseling techniques such as “Building and Installing New Generalizations” assist clients in creating behavioral changes that impact and affect many behaviors resourcefully and across a variety of contexts. This section of the training includes tasking and creating specific client interventions of both a remedial and generative nature.
Benefits: Powerful changes for your clients, the ability to create your own techniques.
This is the ability to identify the behavioral skills and attitudes of an individual. There are two primary purposes for modelling:
- To capture, replicate and transfer any expertise, ability or skill; and
- To identify and assess presenting problems.
Modelling is used in business settings to capture the expertise necessary for high performance behavior in areas such as sales, management and recruitment. It is used in a variety of educational settings including sports enhancement, accelerated learning and any training area relating to development of a particular or skill or expertise. Modelling is also used in counselling as a diagnostic tool to accurately identify limiting behaviour.
The modelling module of the NLP Advanced Skills program incorporates training in the following areas:
a. Meta Programs
These are the filtering processes that operate at a largely unconscious level and include six key areas: an individual’s motivation, response to feedback, people relationships, learning ability, time management and decision making.
These are the determinants of behavior that motivate an individual to expend energy and resources to achieve or avoid a particular outcome. Values are the content of meta programs.
c. Advanced Strategies
The specific sequence of mental processes an individual goes through to perform a behavior or skill.
These are the imprint experiences represented in the form of pictures, sounds and feelings. These memories serve as triggers that drive the motivation and commitment of an individual.
e. Advanced Sub-modalities
These are the structure of the beliefs i.e. how the belief is represented in terms of the visual, auditory and kinesthetic sub-components. Once identified, the critical sub-modality of the belief is used to duplicate and transfer representation to other individuals.
The identification and elicitation of the posture, gestures and other non-verbal cues that represent the individual performing the skill or expertise.
The modelling module incorporates accreditation in the use of LifeSetÔ- a computerised personality assessment tool.
Applications: Education, Negotiations, Sales, Counseling, Management and Recruitment.
